What can you actually do on PandaChat?

You can be matched at random by video, voice or text, or pick someone from Who’s online. You can watch Live, follow people, message them and ring them back from their profile. All of it runs in a browser, needs no sign-up and is free to start.

The ten cards below are the whole product. If you’d like the plain-language version of what Panda Video Chat is first, start there; if you’d rather just try it, the PandaChat home page has the button.

Ten things PandaChat does

Each card is a short summary with a pointer to the page that covers it properly, so nothing here is explained twice.

Video, voice or text matching

Three switches along the bottom of the match screen decide what the next random match will be: faces, voices only, or typing. People who are shy on camera often begin with text over breakfast and save video for later. The first few seconds of a call usually go to settling the phone and saying hi, whichever mode you chose.

Who’s online

The list of people around right now, for when you’d rather choose than leave it to chance. Sort it by popular, new, following or language, read a profile, then decide. From a profile you can call that person directly, which is how most people use the list.

Live

A watching section, separate from calls, where one person is on camera for a room of viewers. It appears only when the site has it switched on; the step-by-step tour of how PandaChat works shows where to find it.

Follow

A tap on a profile adds that person to your Following list, so a good first call doesn’t have to be the last. Most follows happen a few minutes into a call that’s going well, as the guide on calling a stranger describes.

Calling from a profile

The video button on a profile rings that one person, not a random match. It’s the only call button there; voice-only calls come from the match screen. Calling someone on purpose is a little nerve-racking the first time, so a quick check of your light and background before you press it is worth the ten seconds.

Messages

Write from anyone’s profile and the thread lands in your message list. Handy across time zones: if they’re in Chicago and you’re eating breakfast in Madrid, send a line now and ring once their evening starts, once you’ve worked out the time difference.

Guest access

You walk in without a form, an email or a phone number. Everything a guest can and can’t do, plus the browser side of a first call, is answered in the PandaChat FAQ.

Home-screen app

No store listing, just the site pinned to your phone’s home screen with its own icon. The taps for each phone, and why no official APK exists, are on the PandaChat app page.

Free matches, rewards and coins

New users begin with free matches, rewards add a few more, and coins take over after that, for calls and for gifts in Live. Optional VIP sits alongside. The details live on is PandaChat free.

Report and block

Both are on the other person’s profile, and hanging up needs no button beyond the one already on screen. What each option does, and what the other person can see of you, is under staying safe on a call.

Left out on purpose

What doesn’t PandaChat do?

It doesn’t run group rooms, it doesn’t match people by shared interests, and users can’t go live. There’s no swiping either, and no app in the App Store or Google Play; PandaChat lives in the browser. We’d rather say so up front.

  • No group rooms. Every call has two people in it. Live rooms have an audience, but only the person on camera is on video.
  • No interest matching. Random matches don’t ask about hobbies first. If you want more say in who you talk to, Who’s online and its language view are the way to get it.
  • No going live. You can watch Live, chat in it and send gifts, but you can’t open a room of your own.
  • No store app. Add it to your home screen instead, and it opens from an icon all the same.

Which features use coins?

Matching uses coins once your free matches are gone, a call that runs past its free part can use them too, and gifts in Live are paid for with coins. There’s an optional VIP membership as well. You buy coins in the wallet inside the app.

We don’t list prices on this page, because they’re set in the app and can change. The free matches come first, so you can try a few calls before buying anything.

Do the features work the same on a phone and a computer?

Yes, they’re the same features, because it’s the same website. A phone gives you the front camera and the option to add PandaChat to your home screen; a laptop gives you a bigger picture and a proper keyboard for text matches. Pick whichever is nearer when you feel like talking.

On a tablet, use the browser just as you would on a phone. And if you came here wishing you could FaceTime people you don’t know, the random FaceTime page explains how the same face-to-face call works on Android and Windows. FaceTime itself is Apple’s calling app.

Feature questions, answered briefly

Does PandaChat have group calls?

No. Each call involves just two people. Live rooms have many viewers, but only one person is on camera, and everyone else takes part through the chat.

Can I filter who I match with?

Not on a random match; that’s left to chance. If you want to choose, open Who’s online and look through people by who’s popular, who’s new, who you follow or the language they speak.

Can I send gifts?

Yes, in Live rooms. Gifts are paid for with coins from your wallet.

Can I watch without calling?

Yes. Live lets you watch one person on camera without being on video yourself, and the video feed has other tabs to scroll through as well.

Can I message someone before calling?

Yes. Open the profile and write them a message. It’s a good way to see whether they’re free before you press the video button.

Can I use PandaChat on a tablet?

Yes, through the tablet’s browser, the same way as on a phone. Allow the camera and microphone when asked, and prop the tablet up so the other person isn’t looking at your ceiling.

Ready when you are.
