Panda Video Chat, PandaChat for short, lives in your browser. Random video chat, one-on-one, with a girl or someone new. No sign-up. Free to start.
Right now 33,472 people are online on PandaChat. Who’s online lets you pick one of them yourself instead of leaving it to chance; how to use it, and when it beats a random match, is covered in the guide to random video chat with girls.
Most people arrive and tap Start, which is fine. Roughly one in five people here is in the US; the UK, Germany, Canada and France follow. If you’re after someone in the States, call in their evening, when most people are home.
The short version
Panda Video Chat is a website for chatting one-on-one on camera with someone you haven’t met, chosen at random. You open it in a browser, tap Start, and the site connects you with someone who’s online at the same moment. PandaChat is just the short name, so both spellings bring you to the same place.
Each call has two people in it. Nobody else is watching, there’s no group room, and there’s no profile to fill in before the first hello. You arrive as a guest, and if the person on the other end isn’t your kind of company, you hang up and the next call begins.
Video isn’t the only option. At the bottom of the match screen you can switch to voice or to text, and you can change your mind between calls. Meet someone you’d like to talk to again and you can follow them; their profile has a video button that rings just them. Want the fuller picture before your first call? Here’s what Panda Video Chat is, how a call starts and what it costs.
Most people come to random video chat for the surprise: you don’t know who’s next, and neither do they. On PandaChat each match is just two people, chosen from whoever is around when you tap Start, with nobody watching from the side.
A Thursday evening might go like this: a student in Lima between classes, then a guy in Ohio cooking dinner, then a girl in Manila who has just woken up. That spread is what a busy evening here feels like, and it’s why the first question is so often “what time is it there?”
It all runs in the browser, so a call on a phone works the same as one on a laptop. If you’d rather meet girls in particular, chance won’t do that for you, and the list above is the better way in.
It takes three moves. Tap Start and allow your camera, wait a few seconds while someone is found, then talk while it’s going well. If it isn’t, hang up and the next person comes through. There’s no form to fill in first.
One button, on this page or in the bar at the bottom of your phone. Your browser asks to use the camera and microphone; say yes, and PandaChat starts looking for someone who’s free. Prefer voice or text? Pick the mode at the bottom of the match screen first.
Someone comes through. Give the picture a second to settle, then say hi. There’s no rush on the first hello, and the person on the other end is usually working out their opening line too. A wave counts.
Enjoying it? Stay while it’s good; if the call is about to start using coins, the call screen tells you first. Not clicking? Hang up kindly and the next call is yours. Liked them? Follow them from their profile, so you can ring them another day.
The longer walk-through, screen by screen, is on how PandaChat works. The full list of what else you can do is under PandaChat features.
No swiping and no profile to perfect first: someone comes through, and you pick up.
Plenty of random sites are built like a chat window with a camera bolted on. PandaChat is built more like a phone call: someone comes through, you pick up, you talk, and afterwards you can ring back the people worth ringing. That changes a few small things.
| A call on PandaChat | A typical chat window | |
|---|---|---|
| Can you ease in? | Yes. Start on voice, or on text, and save the camera for a later call. | Usually it’s camera or keyboard from the first second. |
| Can you reach them again? | Yes. Follow them, then use the video button on their profile. | Once the window closes, they tend to be gone. |
| Do your eyes have to stay glued to it? | No. You can glance away, laugh, think. It’s a conversation, not a feed. | A chat window wants you reading it the whole time. |
Some people type faster than they talk, and the text mode is there for them. If what you miss is hearing someone laugh at your joke, though, a call gets you there sooner.
And if a call ever makes you uneasy, hang up first and think about it later. The page on staying safe on a call explains what the other person can see and how blocking and reporting work.
Video is the default, but it isn’t compulsory. The match screen has three modes along the bottom, and you can switch between them before each call.
Face to face, one on one. The classic random call, and the mode most people pick first.
No picture, just two voices. Handy for a first call when your hair, or your room, isn’t ready for company.
Matched at random, typing only. Good on a bus, or when you like to think before you answer.
Camera shy today? Start on voice and move to video on a later call if you feel like it. The guide on how to call a stranger covers light, sound and the first few words.
When a random call goes well, you don’t have to lose the person. Follow them from their profile, and later that same profile lets you send a message or press the video button to ring just them. The steps, with where each button sits, are in the walk-through linked above.
Messages land in your message list, so a conversation can carry on between calls, say on a Sunday evening after a short first call on Friday.
A call here is one-on-one: two people, both talking, nobody else watching. A live stream is one person on camera with many people watching and chatting along. PandaChat has both. Calls are what the site is built around; Live is a separate section you can drop into when you’d rather just watch.
In a Live room you can watch, chat along and send gifts with coins, and a button in the room starts a one-on-one call with the person on camera. Users can’t go live themselves.
It’s free to start. Everyone begins with free matches, and rewards add more from time to time, so you can get a feel for it first. When those run out, matching uses coins from the wallet, and a call that runs past its free part can use them too.
We say “free to start” rather than “free” because calls cost money to run, and we’d rather be straight about it. The full breakdown, including what else coins are for, is under is PandaChat free.
No. PandaChat runs in the browser you already use, on a phone or a computer, so there’s nothing to download. On a phone you can add it to your home screen, and it then opens from its own icon like any app. There’s no store version and no APK to hunt for.
The three taps for iPhone and Android are on the PandaChat app page. On an Android phone and wishing you could do a random FaceTime? FaceTime itself is Apple’s app, but the same face-to-face call works in any browser. If your camera won’t start, the PandaChat FAQ has the usual fixes.
Eight pages for the questions people bring to a first call, from the brand itself to staying safe on a call.
A random video chat website: one-on-one calls with people you haven’t met. You open it in a browser, tap Start and talk to whoever comes through, as a guest. You can switch to voice or text, follow the people you like and call them again later.
Yes, it’s the same site, and Panda Video Chat is its full name.
Tap Start a call on any page. Your browser asks for the camera and microphone; allow both and you’re matched with someone who’s online. If you’d rather not use the camera yet, switch the mode to voice or text first.
No. You come in as a guest and can start calling straight away. There’s no form to fill in and no email to confirm before your first call.
It’s free to start. New users get free matches, and more turn up as rewards now and then. After that, matching uses coins. The number of free matches can change, so we don’t promise a figure.
There’s no store app. PandaChat is a web app that runs in Safari, Chrome or another up-to-date browser, and you can add it to your home screen so it opens from its own icon.
Yes. Switch the match mode to voice and you’re paired for an audio call with no picture, or pick text and just type. You can move to video on a later call whenever you feel ready.
Hang up. You don’t owe anyone an explanation, and the next call starts when you tap again. If someone was rude or made you uneasy, you can block or report them from their profile.
Yes, if you followed them. Open their profile from your Following list and press the video button; it rings that person only. You can also send a message first to see whether they’re around.
Yes. People from more than 50 countries use PandaChat, so a random call can come from almost anywhere. Who’s online also lets you look through people by language when you want someone you can easily understand.
You can leave any call in a tap and block or report people from their profile; the rest depends on what you share. Keep your full name, address, school and social accounts off the call.
